Foster Carer IT Training – from the people who know IT and Fostering

Over the last decade CHL has been training social care staff and carers in IT systems.

The broadband revolution now gives everyone the potential to access the information and services they need through the internet.
However, do they know how to get the best out of the equipment they have? And, importantly, are they confident that children in their care are using computers safely and properly?
We can help.

We have designed a range of courses focusing on the key aspects of computer use. They are split into sessions which allow users to interact with trainers and to learn at their own speed and to meet their own needs. Some of the topics covered are :

• Parts of the Computer
• Desktop Basics
• Customising the Desktop
• An overview of Files and Folders (including My Documents)
• Windows Explorer
• Programmes (installing, deleting, updating)
• Security Basics (Firewall, Automatic Updates)
• Malicious Program Awareness (Viruses and more)
• Spam/Spamming
• Using Email
• Online Communities and Resources (Facebook, MySpace, BBC, Wikipedia, Google…)

Full training literature and certificates are provided for each course and feedback is encouraged as we aim for continual improvement. And the sessions are great fun.

We also provide tailored courses on demand in :

• Using Spreadsheets (based on Microsoft Excel)
• Wordprocessing (based on Microsoft Word)
• Database design (based on Microsoft Access)

Foster Carers in particular have found the Introduction to IT training of huge benefit and iterest. These are some of their thoughts :

“The course content has fully met my requirements”
